What you will be doing:

As a member of the Compliance Team and reporting directly to the Head of Compliance, Secretariat and Governance you will be providing input into the compliance strategy and assist in the testing of the Compliance Plan and where applicable regulatory obligations. You will be assisting in mitigation of regulatory breaches and accompanying financial fines. This is a line 2 role as defined by the Santander risk framework. 

Working in a friendly, keen, fast-moving team who support the Business in all Compliance related matters. As this is a more junior role in the team full training and support will be provided to the candidate.

Key Accountabilities:

Managing Risk

  • Works in the team to ensure that all legal and regulatory risks are minimised, and appropriate systems and controls in place to manage risk; and compliance with legal and regulatory obligations across our jurisdictions
  • Assisting the Head of Compliance, Governance and Secretariat in ownership for full compliance with all statutory and regulatory requirements with timely and accurate reporting to the Santander Group, the Boards of all subsidiaries regulated within the Crown Dependencies and the regulators within each jurisdiction of the Crown Dependencies. (full training will be provided). 
  • Assist in ensuring robust Governance across Santander Financial Services operating in all jurisdictions within the Crown Dependencies, all subsidiaries located within the Crown Dependencies and all stakeholders within the Santander Group.
  • Assist the team in the maintenance of the data protection breach and other Compliance registers.
  • Ad hoc BAU support work as required with supervision

Customer/Stakeholder

  • Develops and maintains excellent relationships with stakeholders locally across the Crown Dependencies and in the wider Santander Group.
  • Assist the team in managing Data Subject Access Requests (‘DSAR’s’) to ensure managed within Service Level Agreements (‘SLAs’) in 100% of cases and actions implemented to rectify root cause issues identified/trend analysis.

Legal ad Regulatory

  • Assists to support the Head of Compliance to ensure the business has robust arrangements for compliance with applicable Banking Laws and Regulations.

Evaluation and Reporting

  • Helps to produce accurate and timely reports on Compliance Monitoring Plan  to facilitate effective monitoring compliance issues to the SFS plc Compliance Committee and SFS plc Exco.

Project and Change Management

  • Input into the design and delivery of the annual compliance monitoring plan for Santander International operating in all jurisdictions within the Crown Dependencies.
  • Assists the team to Provide a responsive, quality and timely advisory service on all compliance and risk related matters to project managers and managers based on clearly articulated business strategies, product terms and conditions and project terms of reference.
  • Assist the team in Providing a responsive and timely advisory service on all day-to-day compliance matters e.g. sign off of all customer communications.

Relationship Management

  • Good stakeholder management and assists the Business in all consultative matters.

Technical Advice & Guidance

  • Assist the team to provide risk and compliance technical expertise to support business unit decision making and appropriate solutions to identified issues.

  • Prior understanding of the financial services industry, preferably within an offshore banking context, including an understanding of the regulatory, statutory and governance requirements of operating in Crown Dependencies is a preference however not a necessity as training will be provided.
  • Prior experience with an offshore operation within a Risk, Compliance and/or Anti Money Laundering Function would be helpful but is not essential.
  • Must be able to act independently in the execution of duties (with oversight from Compliance Team) so ensuring appropriate action is taken where necessary;
  • Possession or working to relevant Compliance qualification is desired but not essential.

This is a permanent role working 35 hours per week, with a competitive salary and benefits package and will be based in the Isle of Man.
