Third party access is one of the ways we may be able to help you if you are worried about looking after your money now or later in life.
Setting up third party access on your account means letting someone you trust, the ‘third party’, use your current or savings account. It might be useful if you need someone to do your shopping for you, or if you need help with your day to day banking for a while, for example if you are going into hospital or will be abroad for a while.
This is how it works:
• We will add your chosen person to your banking or savings account(s)
• You will be responsible for anything your chosen person does with your account
• Some restrictions apply, but your third party will be able to access your account using telephone, online and mobile banking in addition to giving instructions in writing or in person at our Isle of Man and Jersey Work Cafés. They can manage payments such as Direct Debits, standing orders and one-off transactions and they may also be able to have their own Visa debit card if you have a Gold Account
• They will have most of the same information and services that you have, but they will not be able to change your personal details or contact details
• If the account owner or the third party dies or loses mental capacity, we will remove third party access, otherwise it will remain in place until you or the third party asks us to remove the third party access or we are asked to register a Power of Attorney, Receiver or Deputy for you
How to register a third party?
• Your third party will need to be over the age of 18
• You can only add a third party to an account held in your name
• A maximum of two third parties can be added
• You will need to provide proof of identity and proof of address for each third party
To register a third party to your account, please complete the third party mandate form and return it to us with the requested supporting documentation.
Please see our Third Party Access Guide for further information.
Alternatives to setting up third party access
There are alternatives to setting up third party access, depending on your circumstances. Power of Attorney can be given to your accounts or, if the account holder has lost mental capacity, then we can accept the following alternatives:
• Receiver - Isle of Man situs accounts: An application may be made to the Isle of Man Courts to appoint a Receiver, who can be a close friend, family member or a professional person such as an advocate
• Deputy - Jersey situs accounts: An application can be made to the Royal Court of Jersey for a Court of Protection Deputyship order, and a person known as a Deputy will be appointed. More than one person can be appointed and it could be a relative or a professional person such as a solicitor or accountant. All applications must be made using a Jersey legal representative, who will make the application on your behalf
