Santander International to sponsor Jersey Reds in new six-year deal

We are delighted to have signed a new six-year sponsorship deal with Jersey Reds which will allow us to continue to support rugby in Jersey.

The sponsorship extends Santander International’s commitment to Jersey Reds until the end of the 2024/2025 season.

James Pountney, Managing Director, Santander International, said: “We’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the Reds over the last few years and were delighted to have the opportunity to extend our relationship. We’d like to wish the team all the best for the coming season and look forward to helping bring the sport to more people in the Island.”

Santander International’s sponsorship with the Jersey rugby club started in 2016 with re-naming of the ground to Stade Santander International in 2017. Since then, our relationship with Jersey Reds has grown from more than just our shared brand colours, but extended to a strong partnership with links across the community.

Mark Morgan, Chairman, Jersey Reds, said: “This is tremendous news and is a huge vote of confidence in the future of the Reds. The team at Santander International have been fantastic partners and I look forward to continuing to work closely with James and his colleagues over the next six seasons.”

Jersey Reds Minis and Juniors
We have also extended our support to the Jersey Reds Minis and Juniors, from kit sponsorship to become lead sponsors.

Children from the age of five can join the weekly Minis and Juniors’ training sessions, becoming a member of one of the 12 squads which coach players up to Senior Level.

The training is designed to be an active, family-friendly introduction to the sport, equipping youngsters with the skills they need to play on any team, as well as developing those who show a keener interest in rugby through to County Selection.

To mark the start of the 2019 season, Santander International invited volunteers and their families to a BBQ in the Supporters’ Marquee ahead of a pre-season match against Scarlets.

Michelle Clark, Chair, Jersey Reds Minis and Juniors, said: “We’re delighted that Santander International is sponsoring us this year. The sponsorship enables us to offer rugby to so many more young people in the Island. We have children from under six up to 18 and they are all playing rugby, and going off Island, and we couldn’t do that without our very generous sponsors.”

Rugby is one of Jersey’s most established sports. Played in the Island at a national level since 1879, the club has played at its ground in St Peter since 1961, with the team turning professional in 2013.

Jersey Reds Go Wild Gorilla - Badongo
This summer Santander International paid homage to its partnership with Jersey Reds by sponsoring a gorilla sculpture in a Jersey Reds shirt as part of Durrell Zoo’s Go Wild Gorilla Trail.

Badongo, the rugby-shirted gorilla sculpture became a popular addition to the team, watching games from his position outside the clubhouse, and appearing in a mobile app game called Go Badongo aimed to help improve numeracy in young people. Check out the short video below on how our Go Wild Gorillas ‘Dream Signing’ got settled in at the home of the Jersey Reds.

Although Badongo may end up going to a new home when the gorilla sculptures are auctioned in November 2019, Jersey Reds will say goodbye to Badongo by donning special Rewild Our World shirts, designed by a Jersey youngster, at a home game on November 9th 2019.

Jersey Reds TV
Worried about missing a game? We are delighted to announce our commitment to sponsoring 3C Internationals Jersey Reds TV for a year. As well as giving fans the opportunity to catch up on games and see highlights of training and media interviews, the recordings help take Jersey Reds to a wider audience.
