Paul Dufty, Owner, Sumas

Set just outside the village of Gorey, Sumas commands fine views over the Royal Bay of Grouville.

During the day, people brunch or lunch on the terrace, watching the world go by, while at night, diners are treated to the twinkle of lights while tucking into delights such as fresh Jersey lobster, or oysters harvested a few meters away.

Founded over 20 years ago, Sumas helped define casual fine dining in Jersey, showcasing seasonal, local produce, that Island residents and tourists alike could enjoy.

Paul Dufty took over the restaurant from family members in 2010 and has banked with Santander International for over seven years.

“We started banking with Santander International when we were looking at restructuring the business. Santander International got behind us with our plans and were with us all the way.”

Over the years Sumas has lost an apostrophe, gained numerous culinary accolades (it currently has two AA rosettes and a Michelin Plate), and continued to refine and redefine what good food means in Jersey.

Paul said: “In hospitality customer service is particularly important so it is something we pay attention to as clients. The customer service we receive from the team at Santander International is excellent. They are always there for us and have been particularly helpful during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Santander International has been incredibly supportive, both in their understanding of what we have experienced but also in being able to offer practical support by being flexible with us and helping us get through the tough times.”
