Kitchen Garden Project with Caring Cooks of Jersey
In 2016, local charity, Caring Cooks of Jersey launched the Kitchen Garden Project with three Jersey primary schools; Samares School in St Clement, Mont Nicolle School in St Brelade and St Luke's School in St Saviour.
The ethos behind Caring Cooks of Jersey is that they believe that providing children with the tools they need to grow food from seed and prepare nutritious meals from scratch, equips them with some of life's most valuable skills.
The Kitchen Garden Project aims to ensure children are leaving primary school with a clear understanding of food and what is good for them, and the ability to prepare basic healthy and nutritious meals.
Santander in Jersey are supporting the Kitchen Garden Project initiative and have been working with Caring Cooks of Jersey and the Jersey branch of the National Vegetable Society. Many of our staff have volunteered to help the three primary schools create or revamp their gardens, so that the children can plant fruit and vegetables which they will later harvest, prepare and eat.
We made a video with the first school that we worked with; Samares primary school, which helps explain more about the Kitchen Garden Project and why we're proud to be working with Caring Cooks of Jersey.
