Santander Flame Relay challenge

A band of Santander superheroes ran, cycled, swam, walked and kayaked around the island of Jersey in a relay event to raise money for local charity partner, Barnardo's.

35 staff from Santander's Jersey office took on this year's challenge, travelling approximately 40 miles around the island by running, cycling, swimming, walking and kayaking in superhero costumes. The Jersey leg was one of a total journey stretching over 1,300 miles which started with teams simultaneously setting off from the bank's sites in Belfast and Jersey on the same day.

You can see some of our staff in action in this short video.

Nick Cook, Barnardo's Team Manager in Jersey said: "A massive thank you to everyone who took part in the Jersey leg of the Santander Flame Relay. Every young person wants to have the chance to reach the top, which is why our work is so important helping disadvantaged young people have the confidence and skills to get back into employment."

Following an all-staff vote, Age UK and Barnardo's were selected to form a collaborative partnership with the bank as part of its new community investment strategy, The Discovery Project.
